The Last Battle

If it should be that I grow frail and weak
And pain should keep me from my sleep,
Then will you do what must be done,
For this -- the last battle -- can't be won.
You will be sad I understand,
But don't let grief then stay your hand,
For on this day, more than the rest,
Your love and friendship must stand the test.
We have had so many happy years,
You wouldn't want me to suffer so.
When the time comes, please, let me go.
Take me to where my needs they'll tend,
Only, stay with me till the end
And hold me firm and speak to me
Until my eyes no longer see.
I know in time you will agree
It is a kindness you do to me.
Although my tail its last has waved,
From pain and suffering I have been saved.
Don't grieve that it must be you
Who has to decide this thing to do;
We've been so close -- we two -- these years,
Don't let your heart hold any tears.

Cassidy"Cassidy—a mischievous sweetheart with a beautiful face and a mind of her own. A Trinity College graduate and fraternity mascot who traveled cross country, camped out and always got the better end of the sleeping bag. Known for her dine and dash antics in the bread isle of grocery stores, her own version of fly fishing in streams and going though all the Christmas stockings under the tree until she found hers, she was a loyal companion, a faithful friend and a partner in crime with her buddy Gatsby. She will live in our hearts and memories forever. How lucky we are to have had such a sweatheart in our lives for so long."

Gatsby"The Great Gstsby, a very handsome boy! Always a comic, he loved: to eat, dig rocks, carry around his giant "pink" fleece bone, his sleepover visits with Dawn, his pet sitter and rides to the beach in his favorite car. A loyal member of our family for more than 12 years. He and Cassidy were the center of attention, a couple of "chocolate bookends". His faithful friendship, unconditional love and wonderful memories will be never be forgotten. How lucky we are to have had such a good friend."
